Dry Needling (IMS)
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is a dry needling technique that involves the insertion of thin solid needles into tight tender bands in muscles. It has been proven effective in the relief of pain and tightness.
This technique is very helpful in the management of complex or persistent myofascial pain. It is often used to release muscles that are causing pain, but more importantly, that are changing the way that you move. When the muscles are released, your brain has an opportunity to discover better movement patterns. Often releasing the muscles is an important first step before retraining can occur.
If this treatment is likely to be helpful for you, your therapist will go over it in more detail with you before your first session.
